College Mentoring Program
St. Clair College AAT
Reflection by Greg Allen
I’ve had great mentors most of my life. Although many are no longer with us, their impact on me as a person and professional are as profound as ever. The advice and guidance through the challenges of life, studies, sports, and social environments was critical to informing my own best decisions and helped contribute to all my successes.
Being hired as a full-time college professor was a very daunting challenge to me and I welcomed the opportunity to meet with and receive guidance and advice as to what lay ahead. We discussed many topics from timing and core delivery to assessment strategies and involvement in extra-circular events.
My mentor’s sage advice about being involved but not overextending myself is something that I had on many fronts been working on. I hope someday in the future to perhaps also be a college faculty mentor, but I have many things that I feel I need to complete first.
